North Wollongong SLSC offers a variety of training courses to new and existing members. Members aged 15 years and over are encouraged to attain their SLS Bronze Medallion, which is the minimum requirement to be an active patrol member, use club equipment, and compete. There are many additional specialist awards available and members are encouraged to undergo training for them. Some of the specialist courses provide the qualifications to take on more advanced roles such as training officer or assessor. Younger members (under 15) first complete their Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) before they can start training for the SLS Bronze Medallion. Parent/guardians of junior members (Sandpipers/Nippers) can also do the Surf Rescue Certificate or SLS Bronze Medallion, to be able to provide water safety during the wet activities.

The qualifications you receive through the Club can be used to go on to further study (Certificate IV), will be a valuable addition to your CV, and cost significantly less than training through other private organizations.

For more details about the courses on offer, see below. See the Training Calender for the training schedule and proficiency dates, and for more information on proficiency, see SLSA Proficiency Requirements. You may also contact Stuart Massey, the current Club Education Manager to register or get more information.
